This image was shot on Coumeenole Beach, West Kerry.

It’s one of the first images I’d really planned out properly, visiting the location several times, monitoring tides and trying a variety of lenses and angles.

This particular evening, high tide coincided perfectly with the setting sun and a clearing rainfall, combining cloud interest with some warmer colours, complimenting the blues of the sky and the aqua-green Atlantic Ocean nicely.

It took at least five visits to time the tides perfectly. It’s a place situated at the far end of the beach and is not accessible at high tide so I had to find my position at low tide and wait for the water to come up around the front of the rock. Once setup, I watched the tide creep further up towards me as the sun set, waiting patiently for the best shot before quickly wading back along the coast holding my camera gear above my head!
