This image was shot on the edge of Llyn Padarn, a lake in the Snowdonia region near the small town of Llan Beris.
I had spent 5 days in Wales travelling from the Pembrokeshire coast up towards Snowdonia, finishing my short trip with a hike up Mt. Snowdon.
I love the mystical attraction of a ‘lonely tree’ and still remember the buzz around The Wanaka Tree when I visited New Zealand in 2018. I was happy to discover there was a similar ‘attraction’ just 5 minutes from where I was staying. I headed off at around 4.30am, keen for the winter season to arrive so I would get a few more hours in bed before sunrise time! I had the place to myself, surprising as it was an August Bank Holiday and I had assumed there would be a queue of keen photographers jostling for position along the edge of the lake.
This particular morning, a beautiful mist lightly covered the lake. I setup my tripod and camera and watched the sky change colour as the sun rose behind the hills at the far end of the lake.
