I've had the opportunity to visit many beautiful places around the world but there is a particular magnetism that will always draw me back to County Kerry. This photo was taken on a return visit to Brandon Creek in October 2020. I‘d walked along this stretch of the Dingle Peninsula before on a sunny day but was keen to experience it during a storm. When the swell and high winds combine, the Atlantic crashes into the rocks sending sea spray 50ft into the air above, an impressive sight.

Storm Aiden was on the horizon and I'd been checking the weather apps, eager for the swell to hit the north-west coast head on. I took an ill-advised clamber down some wet rocks to get closer to the action, setting up my camera facing a series of majestic sea arches. The crashing waves grew bigger and more dramatic throughout the day, sea spray and waves rising higher and higher up the cliff face as the tide moved in. I was mesmerised, perched on the edge of the world as the sea met the land in this dramatic spectacle.

I was eventually covered by a rogue wave and forced to make my way home soaking wet but felt a connection with nature I hadn't experienced in a long time. We’re often caught up in a distracting whirlwind of colourful images, an echo chamber of social media. With this image, I wanted to share how it felt to be in that location on that day, the feeling of wellbeing, when we connect with nature and find a deeper happiness. Sharing a moment with the outside world.
