Infrared Ireland
As of late 2020, there are 300 million photos uploaded to the internet every day. There are endless filters available on various social platforms, giving you the option to add angel halos to your selfies or even make you look like your gran.
Landscape photos from Ireland (well, mine at least) are typically green and blue. After a few months of shooting similar scenes and colours, the photos were beginning to meld into one and I wanted to find a new way to capture this beautiful country.
The following collection hasn’t been processed with a ‘candy-floss filter’ but taken on a camera with a full spectrum conversion.
I’d sent my camera off for a service and decided on an unusual upgrade. This full spectrum conversion now allows the camera to capture ultraviolet and infrared light. The colours and textures of leaves, plants, human skin, and all other manner of objects now reflect IR light in unique and interesting ways.
It’s made me think about what I look for in a photo, whether it’s the composition, colour or subject matter. The contrast between these familiar Irish landscape scenes and the wildly abstract colours will hopefully leave you with a confused smile.
